This allows users to start a meeting on Google Meet by simply clicking on a Meet button in Gmail. However, it can be really annoying if you don’t have to make video calls regularly. The Meet tab in the  Gmail is not permanent, and if you want Google Meet and Gmail to work as separate apps, then you can easily hide Meet in the Gmail app. Google has provided an OFF switch, which will disable Meet from the Gmail app.

To turn off Meet in Gmail app, you need to go to Gmail settings and choose the account and uncheck the Meet tab to disable meet in Gmail app.

  1. Open Gmail on your device and tap the hamburger menu icon from the top left.
  2. Scroll down and open Settings.
  3. Choose an account and tap on the Gmail address to open the settings specific to that Google Account.
  4. Scroll to General > Meet, and turn off the toggle to show the Meet button.
  5. If you are using multiple accounts, you’ll need to disable the Meet tab for each of them individually by following the same steps for each.
  6. Done, your Gmail app will revert to its old design.
